Fashion of 1600s
The people in the 1600s had a very different style than we do today. In the 1600s is was very common for men to dress more elegant and feminine than the woman. Men commonly wore doublets with rounded waists. Many people dressed accordingly to what the king wore, people thought fashion was a statement of wealth. The rich tried to out dress the poor to look nicer with bigger better clothes. Many things came into fashion and then were no longer in fashion, as this happens today with different trends. Boots were in style for a period of time, but soon went out of style for elegant heels decorated with ribbons, rosettes, and buttons. Knowing what people wore is helpful in understanding the text.
