Sports of 1600s
Jousting:
One of the many sports played in Italy during the 1600s. Jousting is held in a big arena with a long hallway for the jousting. Jousting is when two men are on two horses, each on there on. The objective of jousting is to knock off the other rider off their horse. the person who knocks off the rider off their horse wins the match
Archery:
Another one of the many sports that was played in the 1600s was called archery. Archery is a sport where archers stand a certain spot and shoot arrows at small targets, big targets and sometimes moving targets. Back in the 1600s the game of archery could be used to win a the love of a lady. In the book Romeo and Juliet that takes place around the 1600s, archery could have been played by Romeo to win the love of Juliet over another man but in this case it would be Paris.
Fencing:
One of the last of the few sports that are played during the time of the Romeo Juliet was Fencing. In the book Romeo and a few other characters demonstrate a type of way of something called street fencing. Street fencing in a way is basically like fencing. The game of fencing is played by two men dueling each other. There are many of rules to the game of fencing. But in the book Romeo and Tybalt don't play by the rules.
Horse Racing:
The last sports that were played in the 1600s was a sport called horse racing. Even though this horse racing was not in the book of Romeo and Juliet, it was still around during the time of the book. Horse riding was a very popular sport to watch in the 1600s.
